WHEN DREAMS ARE LOST Time's against me. yet each man finds his own reward in the moments of his life Peace surrenders salvation is a dying word yet love is left alive When dreams are lost and hopes begin to fade I see your face with its wonder smiling inside What is in the picture that hangs on the wall? It's telling me something but the words never find me and where are the reasons that I'm feeling so small? I wouldn't believe it but they seem all around me Turning away you take my hands Feeling you touch me I don't have to understand But I can't remember back to when the days were meant to last and people smiled as they went past and there was laughter Coldest winter has placed its icy hands in mine and leads me through the days Crying faces are reaching out to hearts of stone Your love is all that saves When dreams are lost and hopes begin to fade I see your face with it's wonder smiling, inside copyright 1978

PRETTY FACE (You're Just Another) You came on like a debutante that just stepped out of some fashion show Used to getting whatever you want So good looking but your mind was slow Then you told your life story five times in the course of an hour If you were ten shares of IBM I would have sold you right there for a dollar (Chorus) I tried to teach you I couldn't reach you Now I beseech you to let me go You're just another pretty face Oh there's no way to disguise that the light in your eyes is shining through the back of your head (It) seems that there's a dichotomy between your good looks and your mental block May I prescribe a lobotomy with the sharp edge of the nearest rock? (chorus) Just another pretty face, you're just another pretty face Copyright 1978

SILLY LITTLE WILL Willie was a bad boy in his youth Mischievous brat in a word "uncouth" Pulling off the wings of butterflies Beating little girls to make them cry Always fighting after school He never learned the golden rule Had his own view of right and wrong: Torment the weak avoid the strong Said the old man to his father's face "He's of your flesh, he's your disgrace!" Silly little Will, with his childish air To say the most didn't care He'd hang up kittens by the tail Tried to poison the tavern's ale Before he was thirteen years of age Made sure his mommy met the grave Said the old man to his father's face "He's of your flesh, he's your disgrace!" Silly little Will, with his childish air to say the most didn't care Finally Willie's ending came He'd sent the village up in flames The villagers raised their hands and cried Swear this time they'd see him die Said the old man with his death-masked face "Your father's flesh, You're his disgrace!" Silly little Will with his childish air To say the least, he was scared Willie was tied to the miller's stone To grind his flesh and crush his bones Silly little Will said his final words: "Doesn't anybody love me anymore?" JAMAICA Dream of a land down where the cold winds never blow Dance to calypso feel the rhythm of the music in your soul Ooh summers on Jamaica's shore wild winters won't find me anymore I'm on Jamaica's shore Jamaican ladies make your bones melt with a kiss Jamaican ladies Rays of sunshine and as lovers never miss Ooh darling caught me with your charms Ooh darling hold me in your arms don't ever let me go Dream of a land down where the cold winds never blow Dance to calypso feel the rhythm of the music in your soul Ooh summers (golden summers) on Jamaica's shore Wild winters (long cold winters) won't find me anymore I'm on Jamaica's shore Copyright 1978

WHERE TO NOW? Listen, the words you speak are not too clear Still I listen Only time will tell if I could hear and understand Circumstantial evidential moments can make a man change his ways And reactionary actionary masses seem to say: Set a course! But where to now? Leave us don't stand there leave us like an old man move on blind dreamer move on You're a young fool! Young man you've been thinking is there anything here for me? Make up your mind and they'll do the rest but my ladies do nothing for free Ooh you're a young boy a bad risk but there's no need to fear Sign on the line and I'll take your like but I swear you'll be rich in a year Hold on give me one minute Heartless cold bastards! You'd steal from the poor I'll move on as love is my witness But where to now? Where to now? Where to now? I've been searching searching so long I just need I need someone who cares for me Oh I need you now Listen, the dawn is breaking the time is near As I listen there's no mistaking I've got to run but I don't know where don't know where Inconsistencies and contradictions can make a man lose his head And retaliation's consequential actions seem to say: Set a course! But where to now? Where to now? Leave us don't stand there leave us like an old man move on blind dreamer move on You're a young fool! Copyright 1978

JUST YESTERDAY Just yesterday Seemed I was always alone so alone Just yesterday My cards were down on the table Just yesterday Really had no direction no no direction Just yesterday I would try anything I was able (chorus) You're the seed in my garden Take my heart and love will surely grow And the words that you've spoken are the words a man should know Just yesterday you were just a lonely man's fantasy Just yesterday I never knew your touch would be ecstasy Lighting the candle that burns in your eyes Feeling the love that is your disguise Lady of ladies Fulfiller of dreams Lady, you know you're the queen of queens Just yesterday it seemed I carried the world on my shoulders Just yesterday It seemed I was so much older (chorus) Only yesterday just yesterday Only yesterday I was just a poor boy Oh just yesterday you made me a rich man Copyright 1978

As It Stands 05:26
AS IT STANDS Telling long lost tales the old man finds his peace wishing that before too long that he may find release from all of life's worries He's known them all before but slowly turns the grinding wheel which evens up the score And still the rain beats down upon the weary soul of man needing freedom like a bird upon the wing wanting time that time will never bring See the movie queen who's lost her golden age knowing that the future has seen its final page Now with her head held high she tries to hide the pain realizing much too late its all been lost in vain You're like a gypsy spinning fortune's wheel Like a beggar learning how to steal You turn the pages skipping every line You'd love to read them if you could find the time Will you laugh when you loose your way, And your friends are calling you by the wrong name? Like the autumn leaves which wither and decay Each one had its chance to breathe before they drift away And soon the winds of time will open up their door showing you the secrets that you've never known before And still the rain beats down upon the weary soul of man Craving power fear the dark before the dawn See the cowards run to hide before the storm Golden hours lost before too long You're like a gypsy spinning fortune's wheel Like a beggar learning how to steal Will you laugh when you loose your way, And your friends are calling you by the wrong name? DISTANT SHORES Like the dreams of darkest night I take my leave at dawn's first light As the morning breaks upon the distant shore and the tides take the sea without warning When the waves which melt away the sands are reaching out to take my hands Then I wander towards the distant shore And I know that the waters will flow forever more Copyright 1978

about

Distant Shores is the best work by Northwind.
The first track The Sentient Man is probably not the easiest entry to Northwind music. It's long and complicated.
Of the pieces on this album, I recommend listening to Stepping Softly before deciding whether you like Northwind or not.
